Precision Ag Practices for Soil and Water Conservation
At Strang Farms, we are committed to the long-term sustainability of the land as achieved through soil conservation measures, such as reduced tillage crop production and the use of cover crops. Increasing the health of our soils will increases yields as well as make our crops more resilient to environmental stresses like drought and excess moisture.
We are always actively looking to improve the quality of water that leaves our farm and have constructed berms, drop inlets, riparian zones, and other tools to accomplish this. Additionally, by using precision farming and variable rate technology we ensure nutrients are applied at the right place, at the right time, in the right amounts. As an added bonus, this nutrient strategy is of financial benefit since the most efficient fertilizer rate, placement, and timing is also the most economical. Our environmental stewardship approach is important in a social climate where there is increasing attention towards how consumers’ food is grown. We believe this approach will increase demand for our products at a premium price and our high standard of soil and water conservation will make us a preferred tenant for landowners concerned about protecting their land investment. |
